Figure of Guandi, Kangxi Period (1662-1722)
Berwald Oriental Spring Opening

Berwald Oriental Art will be holding an exhibit of recent acquisitions at its gallery.  The show will encompass a wide range both chronologically from the Han dynasty to the 18th century and in terms of material with pottery, porcelain, stone, lacquer, cloisonné and jade. Highlights include from the Han dynasty a large, seated mastiff and a lively balladeer, a remarkable pair of Tang dynasty pottery warriors vibrantly painted with lavish gilt remains, a tall, dynamic Tang figure of an archer also with rich remains of varying pigments. From later periods there is a superb mark and period monochrome Wanli ewer, some very fine Transitional and Kangxi period underglaze blue and white, particularly a superb and large jardinière as well as some excellent famille verte pieces; among the best are a near translucent ovoid lantern and a large baluster jar and cover decorated with alternating panels of figures and landscapes.  Sculpture from varying periods will also be represented, among which is a particularly good Tang Limestone Maiterya Buddha from an old New York Collection. Works of Art will also be included.

In addition, we are very pleased to announce that we are expanding our gallery which will now include both the 19th and 20th floors of our current address.  The additional space will allow us to serve our clients better as well as provide further space to display our inventory.  We look forward to welcoming everyone to our newly enhanced showrooms.

The Spring Exhibition will open on March 17th and run through March 29th, 2008.  Our gallery hours are Monday through Friday 10-6 and Saturdays 11-5.  For further information please contact Cynthia Volk at the gallery at either 212.319.1519 or info@berwald-oriental.com.
